God Told Me To Rebrand From Bandana To Shatta Wale

Dancehall artist, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, alias Shatta Wale, says his current stage name was a divine revelation from God.

According to him, his decision to rebrand in 2013 was a result of his inability to make Showbiz headlines when he was then known as Bandana.

In an interview on Accra-based Joy FM, the ‘My level’ hit-maker said he heard the voice of God shortly after a prayer to change his name in order to bounce back in the industry.

“I felt this music wey I feel say you go be like Lil Wayne and Jay Z, the system no dey like that for here. You know the way Ghana music sometimes you have to hustle promoters to pay you and stuff so I was really struggling. So I woke up and just prayed to God. I said God I beg you, if you will give me another chance for this thing because the way man dey suffer, you for give me an idea,” he said.

According to him, “All what I heard from God was, change your name. And I was like, but Bandana be cool o so I go fi change. And he was like, I changed peoples’ names in the Bible and so if you can also change your name, I believe I can push you up.”

He explained that the only name that came to mind was Wale which he had abbreviated from World Acclaimed Lyrical Entertainer.

“So I said what can I add to the Wale to make it strong, the only word that I could spell in my mind was Shatta. And Shatta in Jamaica is like real bad one. You know, somebody that people fear.”

E.L Leaving BBnZ Live Was A Blessing in Disguise – “Ko-Jo Cue”

Published

on

Most at times, people often create the impression that when a record label is managing different artistes at a time it doesn’t give all of them equal and maximum attention.

Since the departure of E.L from BBnZ Live record label, some people believe this has given much prominence to Ko-Jo Cue and made him more popular.

According to Ghanaian Hip-Hop/Afro-Pop artiste, Linford Kennedy Amankwaa, better known by his stage name Ko-Jo Cue he agrees with this assertion.

“It’s true for people to say that since E.L left BBnZ Live I have been able to catch the spotlight depending on where you look at the issues.”I think that in life, when you light a candle and put it in the sun nobody will notice it but when it gets dark that’s when people will begin to see the usefulness of that candle light”.

Ko-Jo Cue made these comments in a celebrity interview with Cape Coast’s finest radio presenter Amansan Krakye on Radio Central.

Indeed, it is acceptable to come to such a conclusion since Ko-Jo Cue has gotten breakthrough hits and played in some of the major shows in Ghana since E.L left BBnZ Live.Written By: Amansan Krakye, GBC Radio Central in Cape Coast
