EL has shed light on the driving force behind the shift of many rappers to singing in Ghana

Elorm Adablah, better known as EL, has disclosed the underlying reasons why numerous Ghanaian rappers are shifting from rap to singing.

With a growing sentiment that the rap genre is losing its appeal, many artists are opting for singing as their preferred mode of expression. In Ghana, it has become somewhat customary that after a stint in rap, artists transition to singing to establish a stronger presence in the music industry, with only a handful remaining dedicated to rap.

In an interview with Hitz FM, EL highlighted the changing preferences of Ghanaian music listeners, emphasizing that singing garners a broader audience compared to rap. He noted the dwindling attention span of audiences, suggesting that catchy songs with simple lyrics and danceable tunes are more favored in the current music landscape.

EL remarked on the difference in the rap culture between Ghana and other regions like South Africa, where rap has a more entrenched presence. While acknowledging a rap community in Ghana that appreciates authentic hip-hop, he observed that rap doesn’t command the same level of significance in the local music scene as it does elsewhere.

Despite these shifts, EL remains a prominent figure in the music industry, with his artistry continuing to resonate with audiences. His accolades, including being crowned VGMA Artist of the Year in 2016, attest to his enduring impact in Ghana’s music landscape.
