Spotify is rolling out a new way for listeners in Ghana to swap songs and podcasts: Messages, a simple in-app chat designed for fast, familiar sharing. Launching this week for both Free and Premium users, Messages creates a dedicated space inside Spotify for personal recommendations—easy to send, easy to find.

For many Ghanaians, discovery already starts socially: a Highlife classic dropped in the family WhatsApp group or a podcast episode a cousin can’t stop praising. People in Ghana share Spotify links millions of times each month; now, these moments can live directly within the app.

How it works:
From the Now Playing screen, tap Share, choose someone you’ve interacted with on Spotify, and send. Messages are one-to-one chats where you can react with emojis and add text, keeping the conversation tied to your listening. You can access Messages by tapping your profile photo in the top-left corner. Spotify will suggest contacts based on who you’ve shared with before, collaborated on playlists with, joined Blends or Jams with, or who’s on your Duo or Family plan.
For artists and podcasters, smoother sharing means more opportunities. One recommendation can grow a fanbase, fill a venue, or spark the next big book club pick—word of mouth, sped up.
Messages don’t replace the social platforms you already use. You can keep sharing to WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook; Spotify simply adds a more seamless option inside the app.
Users remain in control: you can accept or decline message requests, block or report others (press and hold → Report), or turn the feature off entirely in Settings. Conversations are protected with industry-standard encryption, and Spotify uses proactive detection to help keep content safe while respecting privacy.
“In Ghana, recommendations are social currency. Messages brings that local energy into Spotify so the right track or podcast reaches the right person faster,” said Phiona Okumu, Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa.
This launch marks the beginning of a broader rollout, with more enhancements planned for listeners across the region. Press materials—including screenshots, demo videos, and sharing data—are available upon request.
