Black Sherif’s ‘Sun Sherif’ Marks a Brighter New Chapter

Black Sherif is happy. At least, it sounds that way across ‘Sun Sherif’ , an EP that arrives as a luminous departure from the existential dread and self-sabotaging instincts that defined 2022’s The Villain I Never Was and 2025’s Iron Boy. Having weathered the jagged terrain of fame that followed his “Sermon” series in 2021, the Konongo-born singer and MC is choosing to meet life on hopeful terms—a shift first heralded by “Find a Way,” his anthem for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign.

On ‘Sun Sherif,’ Blacko sheds the weight of survivor’s guilt and self-doubt. Opening track “Expresso” nods to the relentless grind of his earlier years, yet its drive for excellence is tempered by a calm, hard-won peace with his status at the forefront of African music. That self-assurance extends to “Forever,” a dynamic collaboration with rising Ghanaian standout AratheJay, where he embraces the ease his labour has earned him while also accepting the trade-offs that accompany it.

Having spent much of his early career chronicling betrayal, grief, and isolation, Sherif approaches the territory of romance with tentative curiosity. On the piano-led “Run Around,” he interrogates his own emotional defences, dissecting a relationship that fell short of its promise: “You’re running around like I don’t love you.”

And yet, ‘Sun Sherif’s’ true North Star is release—the shedding of old baggage to cultivate new habits. Nowhere is that ethos clearer than on “Love Again,” where Blacko opens up his heart, granting himself permission to believe in a love he’s had a hard time admitting he deserves.

With this project, Black Sherif reminds us that even the most battle-hardened voices can find their way back to joy.
