Richard Obiri Smith, better known as Richie O, was born on December 23rd in Maryland, USA. His formative years were spent moving between the UK, Ghana, and the USA, shaping his multicultural outlook. Richard’s father hails from the Eastern Region of Ghana, while his mother is Black American, giving him a rich cultural heritage.
From an early age, Richie O exhibited a deep passion for music. Although his constant relocations prevented him from learning to play an instrument, his involvement in church choirs filled that void. This zeal culminated in him becoming the Praise and Worship leader at Royal house Chapel Maryland Mission, where he also serves as a Pastor overseeing the Young Adults and Teens Ministry.
Richie O holds a degree in Business Administration and works in the Cybersecurity Industry as a Program Manager. Balancing his career with his ministry roles, Richie O has achieved notable progress in both areas, illustrating his ability to manage and excel in diverse fields.
In his leisure time, Richie O enjoys traveling, cooking, and serving in various church ministries. His life philosophy is deeply rooted in his faith: “God has given each of us a plot of land to take care of. He provides the sunlight, rain, and knowledge, but it’s up to us to do the work and produce the result.” This belief underscores his commitment to making the best of life through hard work and divine guidance.
Richie O admires servant leaders who empower others to realize their potential. He believes that the greatest recognition comes from others testifying how someone has added value to their lives. This principle drives his desire to do more in ministry, mentoring the upcoming generation, not just through preaching but also through impactful community programs.
A defining moment in Richie O’s musical journey was hearing his song on the radio for the first time. However, he finds greater fulfillment in knowing that his music ministers to others. As an AfroGospel artist, Richie O has collaborated with renowned artists such as Kwame Eugene, Ladé, Kofi Kinaata, and The Voice UK 2019 semi-finalist Emmanuel Smith, expanding his influence in the music industry.
He held his maiden live concert, The Gathering, in Maryland with guest artists Limoblaze and Emmanuel Smith gracing the stage in 2023. The concert proved a success, and we look forward to more impactful events this year.
