26-year-old “Charles Ofori Antipem” Wins MTN Heroes Of Change Season V

The finals of the season V of MTN heroes of change came to a glorious end at the Accra International Conference Center on Friday where 26 year old Charles Ofori Antipem, who is changing how pupils learn science walk home with the coveted prize of GH¢100, 000.

The other nine nominees also won in various categories such as Education, Health and Economic empowerment. They are Diana Adjei, David Hagan, Louisa Enyonam Ansah, Rev Fr. Akologo Dominic Alale Azumah, Justin Yelevielbayire, Mawusi Awity, Daniel Owusu Asiamah, Frank Abeku Adams and Benjamin Akinkang. Three out of them also received cash prize of GH¢ 30,000 while the other six finalists received Gh₵10,000 each on the night that was full of excitement,expression of gratitude and suspense.

Charles after going through a lot saw the need to change the story of those behind him and with tenacity and hard work, he is changing the science story in classrooms one ‘Science Set’ or mobile laboratory at a time.

From his base in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, Charles and his young team have so far impacted 22,000 pupils who have experienced what they are taught and with 9,000 sets sold so far.

The project has also seen 550 teachers trained, 370 schools reached, 11 people employed, and 10 businesses directly benefitting from this project because everything about the set is manufactured right here in Ghana.

Since the inception of MTN Heroes of Change in July 2013, a total of 40 people have been identified and recognized on the MTN Heroes of Change platform for committing their personal resources to improve their communities and brightening lives.

The MTN Heroes of Change programme is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program of the MTN Ghana Foundation, designed to tell the stories of Ghana’s humanitarian heroes and heroines and to celebrate them for giving back to their communities in extraordinary and impactful ways.

Beyond this, the MTN Ghana Foundation continues to invest millions of Ghana cedis every year in direct social interventions in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment.
